Project Description
When a slide occurred on the upstream side of Steinaker Dam in Uintah County, UT, it resulted in a moderate capacity of irrigation water being available. This was a major concern since the Dam is a zoned earthfill structure with a height of 162 ft, a crest length of 1,997 ft, and a volume of 1,892,000 cu yd. The Bureau of Reclamation met with water users and farmers and decided to drain the reservoir during the summer of 2018 to make the necessary repairs. Obviously, time was of great importance, so they specified FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers be used to reinforce the concrete portion of the repairs. Fiber reinforced shotcrete was used to protect and stabilize the bedrock before the overlay material was placed. This shotcrete had to be placed over the shale bedrock within 8-hours of exposure to ensure shale stability. FORTA-FERRO fiber reduced cracking while protecting bedrock by providing greater impact and shatter resistance of the shotcrete.
Key Points:
- Reduce Shrinkage Cracking
- Increase Durability
- Saves Time
