Project Description
FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fiber was used in St. Luke’s Hospital new construction in Bethlehem, PA. St. Luke’s Hospital chose to replace specified steel with our FORTA-FERRO fiber in many different applications including a topping slab, a slab-on-ground, and four levels of slab-on-metal-deck. The total project size is 1,246 cu yd and used a 3.0 lb/cu yd and 4.0 lb/cu yd dosage. The main benefit the fiber provided for this project was ease of use by being able to forgo lifting wire mesh into place on the second, third, and fourth floors. It also saved time and money due to the fact that it saved the concrete contractor roughly 5 days in their schedule because they did not have to place steel reinforcements prior to pouring slabs. St. Luke’s Hospital is a great example of the many different ways and applications fibers can be incorporated into a project.
