Oak Harbor Street Overlay

Oak Harbor, OH - August 2011

Project Description

Per project specifications, concrete supplier Kuhlman Corporation added and mixed a relatively low 4.0 lb. / cu. yd. dosage of the 2-1/4 long FORTA-FERRO® as the sole reinforcement method. The contractor placed over 125,000 square feet of 4-inch thick FORTA-FERRO® reinforced topping over a scarified asphalt base, using a saw cut control-joint spacing of 4 ft. x 4 ft. The fiber offered no issues in the placement, screening, or light broom finishing process. The city was also pleased with the minimal fiber appearance on the surface.

Update

At the one-year project inspection in 2012, the results were very impressive with only a minimal manhole-related cracking, and zero evidence of mid-panel cracking over the entire streetscape project. The results of the Park Street project in Oak Harbor, OH, have added to the overall positive outlook and consideration of using fiber reinforced concrete in overlay applications across the country.

Key Points:

  • Superior Finish
  • Extreme Durability
  • Reduced Cracking
