Lakeside Foods’ 36,000 sq ft freezer floor was specified with #5 rebar 11” oc. The construction company involved, who had great success with macro fibers in the past, looked for an alternate flooring system. However, this project had challenges that exceeded most. The freezer floor had 45’ racks with post loads that could reach 40,000 lb per post, so Floor Flatness (FF) and Floor Levelness (FL) numbers were a concern. Concrete finishers and FORTA experts came up with a fiber dosage of 7.5 lb/cu yd that exceeded 100 during tests for FL and FF readings. Ease of construction, by eliminating rebar, allowed the contractor to power buggy all the concrete. This saved time from tying all the rebar and kept the project on track to finish on time, allowing them to store and freeze the produce from the summer harvest. Lakeside is adding another freezer and will be using FORTA-FERRO in this project as well.
