Kil-Kare Speedway and Dragstrip

Xenia, OH - April 2013

Project Description

The Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia, OH, was first opened as a dirt track in 1951. Sixty-two years later, Kil-Kare’s 2013 capital improvement project included the concrete resurfacing  of the full quarter-mile completion raceway, including the challenging starting and staging area. A dragster’s “burn-out” process involves spinning the rear tires in water to heat and clean them prior to a run, creating a tremendous amount of torque and stress forces from vehicle weight transfer on the concrete staging pad. Contractor Precision Concrete, of Greenville, OH, recommended and used the FORTA-FERRO® as reinforcement to strengthen the 6 inch thick staging pad. FORTA-FERRO® was used at a dosage of 3.0 lbs. / cu. yd. as an alternative to the conventional welded wire fabric reinforcement, and provided additional abrasion resistance and surface toughness needed for the stresses caused by these high-powered vehicles.
