Many State Department of Transportation’s across the United States are specifying macro synthetic fiber technology in bridge decks. FORTA representatives presented macro synthetic fiber technology to North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) officials for consideration and convinced them to try FORTA-FERRO. NCDOT was looking to control micro and shrinkage cracking in a new bridge deck off Exit 112 on the I-40 Westbound Lane in Mineral Springs, NC. A fiber dosage of 5.0 lb/cu yd of FORTA-FERRO fibers and a shrinkage reducing admixture was added to the regular bridge deck concrete mix. NCDOT pumped the concrete in the bridge deck and were pleased with the mix and finish of FORTA-FERRO fibers.
