Project Description
Hormann Flexon LLC, a German-owned manufacturer of commercial doors and dock equipment, completed a 70,000 square foot expansion in April 2013. The majority of the project involved 8” thick manufacturing floor slabs, with additional 4” thick office floors. Project engineers approved the use of the FORTA-FERRO® as an alternative to conventional single-layer temperature steel reinforcement. The use of the 3-dimensional fiber reinforcement as a simple additive to the concrete eliminated the placement labor and chairs required of matt-steel reinforcement, and also allowed for faster and more efficient lay-down by the laser-screed equipment. The contractor reported a very uniform fiber distribution within the concrete, and a superior fiber-free surface finish, even at the relatively high fiber dosages. All floors followed conventional panel joint-spacing per ACI recommendations.
