Project Description
After repeat success in the state, FORTA Corporation worked with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and a local contractor in Durham, NC to complete a jointed concrete truck apron poured for the state’s first roundabout. By replacing the specified 6×6-W5/W5 wire mesh with FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fiber, placing costs were eliminated and construction times slashed. This 8” thick 4,500 psi roundabout truck apron totaling 104 cu yd utilized a fiber dosage of 3.0 lb/cu yd. The fiber will increase the impact resistance of the slabs leading to less traffic damage.
