Project Description
The New Ulm Gateway project in New Ulm, MN includes the rehabilitation of 3 major bridge decks, along with various streetscape and landscape improvements. The Front Street Bridge segment of the project included over 1,200 cu yd of concrete reinforced with 5.0 lb/cu yd of FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fiber. Due to the lack of any expansion joints on the deck, concrete supplier Cemstone Products Company was required to supply a minimum of 110 cu yd/hr of concrete from 2 plants to meet project demands. This allowed the deck placement to be completed in 9 hours. The inclusion of FORTA-FERRO fibers allowed for quick and superior mixing with no project delays. Contractor Lunda Construction of Black River Falls, WI, reported no consolidation issues with the fiber-reinforced mix, and the final finished surface revealed minimal fiber appearance.
