FORTA ULTRA-LITE®FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions:

FORTA ULTRA-LITE® fiber is a monofilament polypropylene fiber that is special in two ways:  an ultra-fine filament diameter, and a special fiber-surface treatment. This two-fold novel change to the fiber shape and chemistry has resulted in several patent-pending applications.
The very fine diameter allows FORTA ULTRA-LITE® fiber to distribute quickly and uniformly in all types of lightweight concrete mixes where mixing friction might be minimal.  The special surface treatment allows this polypropylene fiber to suspend in these low-viscosity mixes, and also allows it to suspend other mix particles that might ordinarily fall out of the mix while in the plastic state.
FORTA ULTRA-LITE® has been used in refractory-castable mixes to provide burn-out relief of internal moisture pressures. FORTA ULTRA-LITE® has also been added to both precast and site-cast applications where structural lightweight concrete is used. The fiber's ability to suspend normal-weight aggregates and reduce plastic and settlement shrinkage in lightweight mixes has proven very valuable in a wide variety of applications.
FORTA ULTRA-LITE® has been used in dosage range of 1.0 to 5.0 lbs./cubic yard of concrete, dependant on the desired suspension and/or shrinkage results.  The most common dosage level to date has been approximately 3.5 lbs. of FORTA ULTRA-LITE® fiber per cubic yard of lightweight concrete.
