FORTA-FERRO®Projects

Project List:

High Load/Impact/Abrasion Slab

Terminal Island Salvage Yard, Terminal Island, CA - February 2000

Project Description:

One of the most demanding applications for the FORTA-FERRO® structural synthetic fiber has been for the Hugo Neu Proler Company, one of the largest scrap and salvage companies in the country. Concrete slabs for scrap storage and removal require a high resistance to impact and abrasion, as well as a demand for peak levels of fatigue strength and concrete toughness. These 10" thick concrete slabs are designed to carry in excess of 80,000 pounds front axle load. In lieu of over 60 lbs. of 2" long steel fibers, FORTA-FERRO® was used at 7.5 lbs. per cubic yard. The FORTA-FERRO® fiber was comparatively much easier to add, mix, and handle than the steel fibers, and offered no difficulties in the laser screed placement and finishing process.
