Heavy-Duty Pavement Slab

Project Description:

Caldwell Concrete has supplied thousands of cubic yards of FORTA®-reinforced concrete since their start-up in the fall of 2000. For normal slab applications, Caldwell supplies local builders and contractors with FORTA® ECONO-NET®, a 1-1/2" long fibrillated-net fiber used at a dosage rate of 1.5 lbs./cubic yard to control shrinkage and temperature-related cracking. For their own yard slab subjected to constant heavy ready-mix truck traffic, owner Chad Caldwell opted for FORTA®'s structural synthetic product – FORTA-FERRO®. This 6" thick batch-yard slab was placed in December 2001, and required over 250 cubic yards of concrete. Caldwell selected a 4000 p.s.i. concrete mix reinforced only with 5 lbs. of the 2-1/4" long FORTA-FERRO® fiber. Caldwell also opted for joint-free construction as an onsite example of the post-crack benefits of the FORTA® structural fiber.
