Project List:

Sanitary Sewer Back-Fill Project

Brookfield, OH - October 2004

Project Description:

In the fall of 2004, City of Brookfield, Ohio, engineers approved and used over 2,500 cubic yards of CLSM (Controlled Low-Strength Material) as a sanitary storm drain back-fill. Ready-mix producer Castle Building Supply supplied the FORTA® GA-1 mix, consisting of 130 lbs. cement, 2,600 lbs. sand, 30 gallons of water, and 3 oz. of the Golden Air® flowable fill additive. Starting slump of the CLSM was 1-1/2", and resulting slump of the extremely flowable mix was 8", with an air content of 25%. The FORTA® GoldenAir® flowable-fill mix was placed in over 1/3 mile of 4 ft. wide x 10 ft. deep trench, providing a very stable yet diggable material surrounding the new city storm-drain pipe system. The non-settling FORTA® GoldenAir® CSLM was placed to within 6" of grade to allow for a hot-mix asphalt wearing course.
