Project List:

Concrete Water Channel

California Aqueduct Repair, Littlerock, CA - November 1996

Project Description:

November of 1996, the state of California used FORTA® ECONO-NET® on approximately 4,200 yards of concrete for channel application. The FORTA® ECONO-NET® fibers were used at a dosage rate of 4.0 pounds per cubic yard. The concrete mix used was a standard shotcrete/gunnite mix – 4,500 psi. To maximize long-term durability and post-crack behavior, specifier Ron Lee called for a fibrillated network configuration, polypropylene chemistry, the 4.0 pound per cubic yard elevated contents, and a correct length of 1-1/2" (38mm). These longer fibers mixed and pumped easily with no difficulties. The FORTA® ECONO-NET® positive job performance is expected to result in additional use for the continuing California Aqueduct Repair project in the winter of 1998.

The channel repair involved a 2" thick FORTA®-reinforced shotcrete overlay of the existing deteriorated concrete. The 40-foot sidewalls were at a slope of approximately 2.5:1, with an average floor invert width of 15 feet.
