February 15, 2010 – FORTA® to Participate in NPCA Show Educational Session

A FORTA® team will be providing educational instruction during the up-coming Precast Show, held February 18 - 20, 2010, in Phoenix, AZ. The course, # PS-2 "Wire Fabrication and Fiber Reinforcement", will be held in room 121-A of the Phoenix Convention Center on Saturday, Feb. 20th, from 9:15 - 11:00 a.m. The course will include a segment on "Synthetic Fiber Reinforcement", and will focus on a fiber characteristic formula used to compare both first- and second-generation fibers and their applications in a variety of precast concrete products. A perennial exhibitor at the Precast Show since 1979, FORTA® will be displaying their entire family of synthetic fibers at booth # 1048 at the convention center.

During the recent World Of Concrete show in Las Vegas, FORTA Corporation was a co-sponsor of a project up-date breakfast forum for CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION magazine's Field Test Warehouse Floor Study. Over 100 attendees participated in the 2-hour session, which reviewed the trial mix designs, various trial aspects, and synthetic fiber reinforcement variables. One of the most interesting fiber aspects included 10,000 sq. ft. of the 6" warehouse floor that used 7.5 lbs./cu yd of the FORTA-FERRO® macrosynthetic fiber to replace conventional steel reinforcement, as well as to reduce contraction joint sawcuts by almost 80%. While the 3-D laser scan flatness and curling data are currently being tabulated, one-year anniversary visual reports have declared the high-volume fiber areas to be virtually curl-free, which is an exciting prospect to warehouse and floor owners and developers all over the world. As soon as the final 1-year numbers are available, FORTA® plans to release an overview of the project details and fiber results to date, and will continue to monitor the project for the 2-year duration of the study.

At a recent national sales meeting, FORTA® announced the winners of several of the annual sales awards, including the 2009 U.S. Project of the Year Award - Mr. Bill Coursen, Territory Manager, for the J.M. Smucker corporate concrete parking lot in Orrville, Ohio. The project involved 1,400 cubic yards of concrete curbing reinforced with 1.6 lbs/cu yd of the FORTA® Ultra-Net® fibrillated fiber, as well as over 4,000 cubic yards of 6" thick parking lot reinforced with 4 lbs./cu. yd. of the FORTA-FERRO® macrosynthetic fiber. The use of fiber in these areas reportedly saved the owner approximately $20,000 over conventional steel reinforcement and labor. The 2009 Salesman of the Year Award was also awarded to Bill Coursen as the top dollar sales leader across the entire country. Bill has been with FORTA® for over 20 years, and has created a strong fiber following and market share throughout his central-Ohio and northwestern-Pennsylvania territory.
