Middle Tennessee State University’s CIM – Construction Industry Management team placed first in overall performance for the ACI (American Concrete Institute) FRC – Fiber Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball competition held recently in Dallas, TX, during the national spring convention on March 18, 2012.  Sponsored by ACI Committee S801, Student Activities, and assisted by Committee 544 Fiber Reinforced Concrete, the competition involves several performance criteria limited by bowling ball size, weight, and shape that includes load capacity and post-crack behavior as well as actual bowling characteristics.  The MTSU student team competed with 36 college and university teams and over 190 participants to capture the overall performance title.  Included in the MTSU special design and mix was a high dosage of 2 ¼” long macro-synthetic polymeric fibers donated by FORTA Corporation, equating to approximately 1.5% by volume.  Congratulations MTSU!
